I got passed. In a subdivision. While going the speed limit (30 MPH). By a Jeep Cherokee. You don't need to be going 45 MPH in a subdivision, around a curve, with parked cars in the way.

Did you just get passed by 16 year old me?!
LOL we didn’t have subdivisions.

It was one of the new, squinty-headlight ones.

That pisses me off. I get angry when people fly through our subdivision.
The whole thing is 25 mph. Theres cars parked all over, there are curves, there are kids playing. Not the place for it.

But they didn't drift when the turned the corner ahead of me.

Why can't I give this more than one star?

Okay, i was doing 50 while the Cherokee was doing 70.

Damn you kinja! You and your infernal star restrictions!
Haha, driving fast is fun, we all love it. That’s just not the time OR the place for it.

Subdivisions - where the yuppies park, with a speeding car - drive Jeep or be passed by.
DANGIT IF I CAN’T MAKE RUSH JOKES HERE, WHERE CAN I
![]() 08/19/2015 at 10:14 |

Indeed. And my personal brand of driving fast is maintaining as much momentum as possible around corners, rather than straight line speed. But a subdivision is not the time nor the place for it.

Technically that's French. I think.

They solved that here somewhat by putting 8 bajillion stop signs in and stupidly deep drainage trenches where there aren't stop signs. Then again, now we have people who will accidentally run the stop sign at one intersection and then stop when they have the right-of-way.

WTF
Come on.
Next time, call the cops.

Now if you’d slowed down for ducks or geese, I’d have blown by and done my best to hit them too.
But doing that around kids...

8 bajillion stop signs solve nothing. There's no better way to create a contempt of the law than to give it too much presence. About half should be yeilds and the other half shouldn't be there at all.

There is an explanation in the comments there on why I didn’t. TL;DR though, they wouldn’t have done a thing.

I once had a woman in a minivan speed around me while I stopping for a stop sign. She then proceeded to speed into and park at the walmart parking lot.

Call next time, especially if you know what house it is.
They are required to follow up on things (even if it takes them 8 hours to get there). They may not do a damn thing but cops at her door will show her that what she’s doing is wrong and dangerous. Call every time, even if you feel like you’re not getting anywhere.
You don’t think they would have done anything, but if you don’t call it’s guaranteed they don’t do anything.

I wonder if it’s the same driver who drove up on the sidewalk to “get around” a school bus.

I was once doing about 60(twisty road) in a 45 and got passed at 75 by an Fj cruiser, on a blind crest.

I live in a neighborhood (not a development) where we are allowed to park on the street. The law is that if you are driving down the side of the street which allows the cars parked and a car is coming from the opposite direction, you have to sit/wait behind the parked cars until said driver from opposite direction passes you/parked cars. Do you want to know how many times that happens.. NONE. Zilch. Nada. I almost get hit head on, on a daily basis because people can’t wait three seconds for me to pass them.. Then they give ME this stink eye/middle finger because I didn’t wait for them to pass the parked car.. Fuck those people. Fuck them with a rusty pitchfork.

We have this rule too (I think. could just be an unwritten law), but most of the roads where I am are wide enough for it not to matter. There is room for parked cars on 2 sides of the road (and they do) with about 1-1 1/2 lanes in the middle. Whatever the case, some people still consider this road to be blocked when there is only one car parked. Really annoying to be behind them, but really amusing watching them freak out when they're coming the other way :)

We’ve called before 4 times about a drunk driver on the interstate, a stretch that 4 had died on the night before due to a drunk driver, not a trooper in 60 miles.

It’s a lot harder with a moving target.
If they’re required to bump that to highway patrol/state troopers that means one may be a ways off. In that case by the time they get to the area said drunk driver is gone into the night.
saying - This crazy woman in a silver mazda almost mowed down some kids I want an officer here, she’s parked at 1234 Main Street is a lot more of an “actionable” tip.
